A National Shift: What’s Changing in Team Formation
Youth soccer across the United States is transitioning from birth-year teams to school-year teams.
This shift:
- Aligns players with their classmates and school peers
- Eliminates spring roster disruptions (especially for 8th grade / freshman transitions)
- Creates greater team stability across the full club season
Learn more about the national change:
US Youth Soccer Announcement
What This Means for Team 402 Players
- More consistent rosters throughout the year
- Better alignment with school schedules
- Flexibility remains: players may request to “play up” to stay with teammates or peer groups
We will work with families during registration to ensure the best fit for each player. In addition, Team 402 is actively working with Nebraska State Soccer Association to explore a waiver process for players who may be adversely affected by the transition to school-year team formation. Our goal is to advocate for practical solutions that prioritize player development, team continuity, and the overall experience for families navigating this change.
